The USS BENJAMIN STODDERT (DDG-22), the twenty first Charles F. Adams-class guided missle destroyer, was commissioned on 12 SEP 1964. Built at Lockheed Shipbuilding in Seattle, Washington, USS BENJAMIN STODDERT deployed tit eh Western Pacific repeatedly during the War In Vietnam. Spending her entire service career as Pacific Fleet "DDG", USS BENJAMIN STODDERT later "West Pacs" called upon her to voyage to the Indian Ocean. In 1990, as part of a Counter Narcotics deployment off of Central America, USS BENJAMIN STODDERT transited the Panama Canal, visited the port of Willemstad, Curacao for several days then returned to the Pacific by the Panama Canal. USS BENJAMIN STODDERT served her country for 27 years, 3 months and 8 days, until decommissioned on 20 DEC 1991. After being laid up at the NISMF - Pearl Harbor, USS BENJAMIN STODDERT was sold for scrapping. On 3 FEB 2001, while being towed from Hawaii towards the Panama Canal and the scrap yard in Texas, the hulk of BENJAMIN STODDERT took on water in heavy weather and capsized in the Pacific.
