DD-396 USS Jouett
USS Jouett was built at Bath, Maine in 1936, and then commissioned in January 1939 as a Somers class destroyer. She first participated in shakedown cruises before being put on Neutrality Patrol along the Gulf and East Coast. Jouett escorted Tuscaloosa, carrying President Roosevelt, before heading for the Pacific and Pearl Harbor. Once she arrived at Pearl Harbor, she remained there performing exercises and tactics training until mid-1941. Then, she escorted Yorktown to Cuba and then on to Trinidad, which is where she got word of the Pearl Harbor attacks that started the U.S. involvement in the war.
In December 1942 she was sent to Charleston for repairs and was quickly returned to Brazil in January 1943. She performed more escort duties and screening missions through early 1944, including helping find and attack an enemy ship that was sneaking in under the radar. In March 1944, Jouett was again returned to Charleston and then Maine for a few months of training exercises before being returned to her escort duties in the war. She was involved in convoy and escort voyages through August 1945 when the war ended. In November 1945, USS Jouett was decommissioned before being scrapped the following year.
