DD-387 USS Blue
USS Blue wait built at Norfolk Navy Yard as a 1500-ton Bagley class destroyer. She was commissioned in August 1937 and operated in the Atlantic and Caribbean for a year before being transferred to the Pacific to become a part of the Battle Fleet. In the spring of 1940, she was stationed in Pearl Harbor, moving from the West Coast to help with growing tensions in the Pacific. USS Blue, like many ships at the time, was moored in the harbor when the attacks occurred on December 7, 1941.
She immediately moved to patrols off Pearl Harbor for the first weeks of the war, before being sent to participate in raids and escorting convoys for the better part of the year. She continued her efforts in the Pacific with the Solomon Islands invasion, as well as Guadalcanal. She was on duty in August 1942 when Japanese ships managed to sneak by and defeat the U.S. in the Battle of Savo Island. Two weeks later, USS Blue was patrolling again when she was torpedoed by Kawakaze, a Japanese destroyer. Because of the damage that was done, USS Blue ended up being scuttled in August 1942 off the coast of Tulagi.
