DD-370 USS Case
USS Case was built at Boston Navy Yard in September 1935 and commissioned in 1936. She reported initially to the Battle Force in the Pacific, and was then moved to become a part of the Pacific Fleet. She helped with escort services and cruises in the Pacific prior to the breakout of war, including trips to Alaska, Pearl Harbor, Samoa, Tahiti, and New Zealand. USS Case was present at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacks occurred on December 7, 1941, and helped to attack many enemy planes and bring them down. From that day until May 1942, Case was employed as a convoy escort from the West Coast to Pearl Harbor.
In the middle part of 1942, USS Case patrolled and performed escorts off Alaska and then moved back to Pearl Harbor before being sent back to the U.S. for overhaul. In November 1942, she was returned to the Pacific and performed convoy escorts and screening until January 1943 when she arrived at Espiritu Santo for training, escorts, and patrols. Another overhaul followed in September, and then she was sent back to escorts and patrols in the Pacific. She was present to accept and supervise the surrender that ended the war in September 1945, and was then sent to Norfolk, decommissioned in December, and sold for scrap in December 1947.
