The USS BRYCE CANYON (AD-36), a Shenadoah class destroyer tender, was commissioned on 15 SEP 1950. BRYCE CANYON was named for Bryce Canyon in Utah. Built in Charleston SC, after commissioning she transited the Panama Canal and reported for duty at San Diego, CA. BRYCE CANYON deployed to the Far East in support of the Korean war effort in 1951. This was the first of a series of "West Pacs", alternating with West Coast duty, that marked BRYCE CANYON's career. USS BRYCE CANYON served her country for 30 years, 9 months and 15 days, until decommissioned on 30 JUN 1981 at Pearl Harbor. The hulk of BRYCE CANYON was scrapped in 1982.
